About Our Professors

Our faculty are personally interested in students’ careers! The instructors are nationally and internationally renowned men and women who are tops in their fields. Each student is assigned a personal advisor to help him/her select the classes and career path that are most suitable for him/her.

Andreas Fischer, Ph.D. University of Bern (Switzerland) in 1993.

Research Interests: My work is focused on understanding the functional basis of nitrogen remobilization and redistribution from senescing leaves. In this context, my laboratory has a special interest in proteolytic enzymes responsible for the degradation of major (plastidial) leaf proteins at the onset of the senescence process. A second project strives to understand the molecular biology and biochemistry of wheat polyphenol oxidases (“PPOs”), a gene family involved in (undesirable) darkening of wheat products.
